Somerset Mayor Alan Keck officially files to run for Kentucky governor

Keck seeks the GOP nomination with a platform for Kentucky focused on the economy, family, public safety and education

FRANKFORT, KENTUCKY (January 5, 2023) — Somerset Mayor Alan Keck officially filed for the GOP nomination for governor Thursday at the Kentucky Secretary of State’s office in Frankfort, joined by his family and a group of Kentuckians who represent the four pillars of his platform.

The Keck Game Plan for Kentucky outlines strategies for improvement in four areas — Economy, Family, Public Safety and Education — with the focus on policies that will help Kentucky grow, get more Kentuckians back to work, build the best education system in America, create a safer Commonwealth, and make Kentucky the most pro-life, pro-family state in the nation.

“I was honored to have supporters with me today who represent the business community, first responders, family and education, people who understand the need for commonsense policy in these areas and are ready to see Kentucky start winning again,” Keck said. “And as always, to have my wife Tiffany and my girls by my side as we take this giant leap forward as a family was so special. I am eager to continue traveling the state to introduce myself to Kentuckians, sharing my vision for our beautiful Commonwealth and demonstrating I have the experience to solve Kentucky’s complex challenges.”

Keck, a business executive who was recently elected to his second term as Somerset’s mayor, announced his intent to file on Nov. 21 to a packed house of more than 300 supporters at The Virginia, downtown Somerset’s century-old, newly renovated live performance venue — a symbol of Keck’s success in reviving Somerset’s economy and downtown in only one term as mayor.

Between that announcement and the end-of-year filing deadline, Keck raised more than $200,000 for his campaign — a 40-day blitz that demonstrated his message is resonating with voters. He is also committed to answering questions from voters and the media and offers a place on his campaign website for anyone to submit a question. As of the time of his filing Thursday, he has answered 158 questions and does so regularly during Facebook Live sessions (@KeckforKY).

Keck and his team have led a period of unprecedented change in Somerset. By embracing investment in quality-of-life initiatives and reimagining economic development, Somerset has experienced record revenue without raising taxes, record business investment and record tourism spending. As a result, Somerset outpaced the state’s growth by double in the last decade.

He wants to carry that success forward by leading Kentucky as a Republican governor. He is the only candidate in the field with the public- and private-sector experience necessary to lead as Kentucky’s CEO and the only candidate with a platform.
